Damascus to Host Specialized Course on Athlete Nutrition in October

The Syrian Federation of Sports Medicine has announced the organization of a specialized course dedicated to the nutrition of athletes. The event, held in partnership with the Syrian American Nutrition Association, is scheduled to take place at the Ministry of Youth and Sports headquarters in Damascus from October 4 to 7.

This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Syrian Federation of Sports Medicine to advance the scientific expertise of professionals working within sports teams and clubs. Kamal Nasib, Secretary-General of the Federation, highlighted the necessity of integrating advanced research and studies in sports nutrition into the field operations of sports teams. According to Nasib, proper nutrition is a fundamental pillar for enhancing physical performance, accelerating recovery processes, and preventing recurring injuries that can hinder an athlete’s career.

The curriculum of the course covers several scientific and practical areas, with a primary focus on correcting common nutritional misconceptions that remain prevalent within local sports circles. The sessions will introduce participants to the importance of healthy dietary habits and the significance of timing meals to align with the demands of training sessions and competitions, thereby ensuring optimal physical efficiency.

Beyond strictly dietary guidance, the program includes an essential awareness component addressing the risks associated with performance-enhancing drugs and internationally prohibited substances. This segment is designed to strengthen self-regulation and educate both support staff and athletes on the detrimental effects of these substances. Furthermore, the course will provide participants with practical tools to develop customized nutritional programs tailored to the specific physical activities and training regimens of individual athletes.

The hosting of such programs is part of the ongoing efforts by the Ministry and relevant sports federations to qualify personnel capable of keeping pace with global developments in sports science. Such training is intended to reflect positively on the sustainability of athletic performance and the overall development of local teams.
