Syrian Cultural Diary: Nationwide Events Held Wednesday
A wide range of cultural activities took place across Syrian provinces on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, featuring a mix of scientific lectures, poetry recitals, interactive workshops, and performances in theater and cinema.
In Damascus, the Arab Cultural Center in Mezzeh hosted a series of events, including a lecture on life preservation to mark International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer by Bashar Araby, an interactive workshop on intergenerational dialogue by Kamal Sawan, and a chess workshop led by engineer Hossam al-Din Khamis. The Abu Rummaneh Cultural Center held a scientific lecture titled “What is Laser?” by engineer Samar al-Maghout, which concluded with an art forum. The center also hosted a poetry evening titled “Damascus – Secret of Time’s Joy,” featuring a selection of Syrian poets. In Old Damascus, the Gardenia Choir performed at Beit Farhi, while the Al-Hamra Theater presented the musical performance “Aladdin and the Magic Lamp.” Additionally, the Puppet Theater hosted the play “The Penguins and the Snowman,” and the Opera House screened the film “The Road Back,” alongside various cinematic offerings across the city.
Events in Rif Dimashq focused on awareness and education. The Cultural Station in Jayrud held a lecture on the Prophet’s biography, while the Sahnaya Cultural Station hosted a session on the basics of sign language. In Daraa, Mohamed Abu Zaid presented a lecture at the Rural Revival Center in Nawa regarding Syrian songs in the southern region.
In Homs, the University Graduates Association held a cultural evening featuring readings from the book “Awai Lima Bada,” and the Harmony Center screened the drama film “Three Colors: Blue.” In Masyaf, Hama, a youth poetry evening took place, accompanied by a solo oud performance. Meanwhile, the first Salamiyah Festival for Duodrama opened with a theatrical play titled “Rendezvous.”
In Tartus, the Arab Cultural Center launched the 26th edition of the “Umm al-Rabeein” festival under the theme “Syria the Roots,” which included an art and sculpture exhibition and a poetry evening. Cultural activities were also held across other cities in the province: the Qamisiyeh cultural window featured a presentation on the antiquities of the Golan, the Al-Kareem school in Al-Qadmus organized a handicrafts workshop, the Sheikh Badr Cultural Center hosted a poetry morning, and Dr. Manhal Mohamed delivered a medical lecture at the Safita Cultural Palace.
Elsewhere, the Arab Cultural Center in Jableh, Latakia, organized an interactive workshop titled “Dhat al-Sawari.” In Aleppo, Dr. Abdul Badi’ Nirbani delivered a scientific lecture at the National Library, and a special event was held to mark the International Day of Sign Language. In Raqqa, engineer Abdul Rahim al-Muhaimid delivered an agricultural lecture on protecting grape crops at the Jarniya Center, and the Idlib Cultural Center hosted an event titled “Your Academic Destination.”
These activities are part of the periodic program of Syrian cultural centers, which aim to foster intellectual and artistic engagement across various regions and provide cultural content for diverse age groups and social interests.
