Blood Donation Drive Organized in Tartus to Replenish Blood Bank
The Tartus Health Directorate has organized a new blood donation campaign at the city’s Comprehensive Clinics Center. The initiative, held in cooperation with the local blood bank, aims to address critical shortages of certain blood types and ensure that medical facilities are equipped to meet the ongoing needs of patients.
This latest drive marks the sixth in a series of similar initiatives held throughout the region. Previous collection efforts were successfully conducted in several areas, including Al-Hussein, Al-Raml, Al-Rahma, the Port area, and Khirbet al-Maazah. By holding these campaigns at various locations, health officials seek to broaden the donor base and ensure a consistent supply of various blood groups to the central bank.
Dr. Issa Hussein, director of the Tartus health district, highlighted the primary objectives of the initiative during the event. He noted that the primary goal is to secure a diverse range of blood types and strengthen the overall capacity of the provincial blood bank. The campaign serves as a crucial component of the region’s public health infrastructure, directly supporting the continuity of care for patients across multiple healthcare facilities.
Medical experts involved in the project underscored the vital importance of volunteer blood donation. Dr. Waseem Suleiman, responsible for quality control within the district’s health services, described the act of donating blood as an essential humanitarian duty. He emphasized that the blood collected is life-saving for patients suffering from chronic conditions, such as thalassemia and sickle cell anemia, as well as those requiring blood transfusions for surgical procedures. The campaign also focuses on identifying and collecting rare blood groups, which are often in short supply.
The event was managed by specialized medical teams who oversaw the entire process, performing necessary health screenings and medical examinations for each donor to ensure the safety and suitability of the blood collected. The local community in Tartus has shown active participation, with many citizens stepping forward to contribute, reflecting a strong sense of social solidarity and an understanding of the necessity of such medical initiatives.
This drive is part of a wider series of efforts implemented across various Syrian provinces to boost national blood reserves.
