Chinese Economic Delegation Explores Investment in Syria

The Syrian capital, Damascus, has hosted the launch of the Syrian-Chinese Economic Development Forum. The event featured a visiting Chinese economic delegation comprised of 16 specialized companies operating in the construction, engineering, equipment, industrial, and investment sectors. This forum serves as a strategic step aimed at strengthening economic cooperation and developing bilateral relations between the two countries.

Ye Feng, representing the Chinese economic delegation, emphasized that investment opportunities in Syria are witnessing a significant upward trend. He highlighted the reconstruction sector as one of the most attractive areas for investment in the current phase. According to Feng, the forum provides a genuine platform to explore avenues for cooperation and to establish a robust foundation for long-term partnerships.

To effectively activate these partnerships, Feng stressed the importance of consistent follow-up and transforming the forum’s outcomes into practical agreements that align with the economic policies and directives of the Syrian state. The Chinese side has proposed the establishment of a joint Syrian-Chinese cooperation center, with headquarters in both Damascus and China. This center would serve as a reference point for monitoring investment projects, addressing challenges faced by investors, and facilitating necessary regulatory procedures.

Feng further noted that the success of these joint investments relies on key elements, including the strengthening of supply chains and the development of human resources. He pointed out that Chinese companies have shown significant interest in the Syrian market, evidenced by several trade delegation visits over the recent period. He added that the industrial sector represents a promising field for cooperation, noting that Chinese expertise and capabilities could be transferred to Syria to help develop local production sectors.

The Syrian-Chinese Economic Development Forum was organized by the Syrian-Chinese Business Council, in coordination with the Syrian-Chinese Center for Industrial City Twinning. The event was held in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade, as well as the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection, as part of an effort to revitalize economic activity and expand the horizons for foreign investment in Syria.
