Syria Reports Over 20,000 New Driving License Applicants Last Month

The Driver Licensing Department under the Syrian Ministry of Transport has announced that 20,795 individuals registered for driving licenses throughout the month of October. During the same period, the department reported significant activity in testing, with a total of 22,120 new and repeat candidates sitting for examinations. Of these candidates, 19,687 successfully passed, representing an overall success rate of 89 percent.
In a related development, the Director of the Driver Licensing Department, Mohammed Al-Aloush, announced the renewal of the operating license for the Al-Ghazi Driving School in Aleppo. This update brings the total number of licensed driving schools across Syria to 84. Al-Aloush stated that the Ministry’s current strategy is not limited to expanding the number of schools; rather, it is primarily focused on enhancing the quality of both theoretical and practical training, as well as modernizing qualification methods and testing procedures.
These measures are designed to ensure that graduates possess the essential skills and knowledge required for safe driving. The initiative is intended to bolster adherence to traffic regulations and reduce the frequency of road accidents. Al-Aloush indicated that the upcoming period will see the launch of a series of regulatory and development measures for driving schools and training centers. These reforms will coincide with the introduction of new traffic legislation, forming part of the Ministry’s broader plan to improve the licensing system and optimize operational mechanisms.
These figures are reflective of the ongoing efforts by the Driver Licensing Department to verify the eligibility of applicants and refine its administrative and technical procedures. Previously, the department announced that the total number of individuals registered for driving licenses during the first nine months of the current year reached 149,299 across various Syrian provinces. This data highlights a high demand for these services and underscores the continuous work being carried out to qualify centers and expand the scope of service delivery to citizens.
