Syrian Foreign Ministry Discusses Cooperation with UNHCR

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has held an official meeting with a delegation from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to discuss future cooperation and programs aimed at supporting the population’s needs and reconstruction efforts.

The meeting was attended by Nahla Othman, Director of the Expatriate and Refugee Affairs Department at the Ministry, and a UNHCR delegation led by Asir Al-Modaian. The discussion focused on a review of current UNHCR projects underway in Syria and ways to strengthen institutional cooperation between the two sides.

Key topics of the discussion included mechanisms for the transfer of knowledge and expertise between the Syrian government and the international organization, with the goal of improving living conditions and fulfilling the essential needs of citizens. Both parties emphasized the importance of close coordination on future projects, specifically looking at plans to enhance the UNHCR’s response to humanitarian challenges within the country.

Furthermore, the talks highlighted the role these projects play in supporting the reconstruction phase, which remains a priority in the Syrian government’s current planning. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, this session is part of a series of periodic meetings intended to assess humanitarian requirements and further develop joint operations. Both sides noted that future steps will involve closer collaboration, beginning with a specialized workshop designed to establish practical frameworks for proposed projects and identify priorities for the coming period.
