Health Ministry Condemns Attack on Medicals Hospital in Azaz
The Syrian Ministry of Health has issued a strong condemnation regarding the recent violence and vandalism directed at the Medicals Hospital, formerly known as the Dawa Hospital, located in the Azaz area of the Aleppo countryside. The incident, which occurred following the death of a patient at the facility, resulted in significant damage to hospital property and equipment, as well as physical assaults against medical staff members while they were performing their professional and humanitarian duties.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Ministry extended its condolences to the family of the deceased patient. However, the health authority emphasized that the death of a patient under medical care does not, under any circumstances, justify acts of violence, the destruction of medical infrastructure, or the targeting of health workers. Such actions not only pose an immediate physical threat to the safety of doctors, nurses, and hospital personnel but also severely disrupt the delivery of critical healthcare services to the wider community. The Ministry noted that medical facilities contain essential equipment upon which the survival and recovery of other patients depend, making such acts of vandalism particularly damaging to the healthcare sector.
The Ministry reiterated its firm stance against all forms of aggression toward health institutions and professionals, underscoring that the safety of the medical environment is a fundamental requirement for the continuity of life-saving services. Regarding grievances concerning potential medical errors or perceived negligence, the Ministry stated that there are established legal and judicial channels for addressing such claims. It stressed that any allegations of malpractice must be handled exclusively through these official mechanisms, rather than through vigilante actions or public disturbances.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Health reaffirmed its commitment to providing protection for all healthcare facilities and medical staff across the country. While pledging to uphold the integrity of the medical sector, the Ministry also declared that it would not tolerate proven instances of medical negligence. It asserted that any such errors must be dealt with according to the law, and that it will continue to take a firm position against any form of hostility that threatens the safety of workers or hinders the essential functions of healthcare providers in Aleppo and beyond. The incident in Azaz has drawn significant attention to the challenges faced by medical staff in the region as they continue to operate under high-pressure conditions.
