Free Medical Campaign Launched in Raqqa for Cardiovascular Patients

The Raqqa Health Directorate, in coordination with the Syrian Medical Syndicate and the Modern Medicine Hospital, has launched a specialized free medical campaign targeting patients suffering from heart disease and coronary artery atherosclerosis. The initiative is being conducted in strategic partnership with the Syrian Expatriate Medical Association (SEMA) and the Pioneers for Cooperation and Development Foundation.

The campaign aims to alleviate the financial burden on the most vulnerable patients in the province while providing the specialized healthcare required for their conditions. Abdullah Al-Hammoud, Director of Health in Raqqa, confirmed that the initiative provides comprehensive services, including diagnostic and therapeutic catheterizations, as well as the implantation of cardiac stents, completely free of charge.

Al-Hammoud explained that these procedures are currently being performed in collaboration with the private sector at the Modern Medicine Hospital. He noted that this serves as a preliminary and proactive step toward the anticipated opening of a cardiac catheterization department at the Raqqa National Hospital, which will contribute to strengthening the province’s medical infrastructure.

Dr. Khamis Ahmed Al-Ajawi, a cardiologist with the Modern Medicine Hospital team, stated that the initiative embodies the spirit of local development, featuring the participation of a wide array of Syrian doctors from within the province and abroad. He emphasized that strict medical criteria are being applied to triage cases, ensuring that support and resources are directed toward those most in need.

Sharif Al-Sharif, a cardiac catheterization consultant with SEMA, noted that the campaign’s success relies on the provision of all necessary medical equipment and supplies in cooperation with the Pioneers Foundation. This support has enabled local medical personnel to perform surgeries according to required standards. Meanwhile, Thair Al-Alis, head of the Cardiology Department at the National Hospital, indicated that medical teams are working at an intensive pace, performing approximately six catheterization and angioplasty procedures daily. He added that the teams remain fully committed to providing immediate care for all emergency cases, particularly those involving myocardial infarction, that present to the hospital during the campaign.

According to data from the Raqqa Health Directorate, the campaign has already received over 300 patients for health assessments. Organizers have established a plan to conduct between 20 and 30 angioplasty and stent implantation procedures over a four-day period. The campaign is prioritizing patients who have previously undergone catheterization but were unable to complete their treatment due to financial hardship. The initiative has received a positive response from the local community, with beneficiaries highlighting the importance of receiving specialized care that helps ease significant financial burdens. This project is part of a broader series of health initiatives currently underway in Raqqa to support patients and improve the level of medical services in the region.
