Deir ez-Zor Hosts First Syrian-French Medical Conference

Deir ez-Zor is preparing to host the inaugural Syrian-French Medical Conference, scheduled for October 16 and 17 at the Badia Al-Sham Hotel. The event aims to strengthen scientific and medical cooperation between Syrian professionals based in the country and those working abroad.
The conference is organized by the Union of Syrian Doctors and Pharmacists in France (UMPSF) in partnership with the NGOs “Mehad” and “French Relief for Syria.” It receives direct support from the Syrian Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the Deir ez-Zor Governorate. According to Dr. Abdel Moneim Hamid, president of the UMPSF and the conference chairman, this is the first event of its kind to be held in the province and the Syrian Al-Jazeera region since liberation.
Held under the theme “New Developments in Medicine and Preventive Healthcare in Light of Responding to Local Health Needs,” the conference will feature active participation from the Syrian Medical Syndicate, local health directorates, universities, and medical schools. Additionally, a wide range of medical, scientific, and humanitarian organizations from Syria, France, Europe, and the Arab Gulf states are expected to attend.
The scientific program includes specialized sessions, intensive lectures, and workshops designed to address the latest advancements across various medical fields. Participants will focus on preventive healthcare and the development of medical services tailored to the actual realities and needs of the local population.
Following the conference, Dr. Hamid announced the launch of a specialized medical, surgical, and humanitarian campaign running from October 18 to 22. The campaign will feature a group of Syrian and international doctors and surgeons. Activities will include patient examinations, consultations, surgical interventions, and specialized training workshops covering medicine, surgery, and dentistry. These efforts will span several hospitals and healthcare centers across the governorates of Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, and Al-Hasakah, with the goal of supporting local medical staff and improving the quality of services provided to citizens.
Registration for the conference is free for students and doctors within Syria, with details available on the event’s dedicated website. This scientific initiative is part of a broader strategy to transfer knowledge and localize advanced medical expertise across Syrian provinces. Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Marwan Al-Halabi, emphasized the importance of achieving health and scientific equity by ensuring that medical expertise and services reach all parts of the country. Through this event, the Union of Syrian Doctors and Pharmacists in France aims to provide a model of productive humanitarian and scientific collaboration, contributing to the support of the Syrian health sector and the promotion of sustainable medical development.
