As-Suwayda Governorate Announces Committee for Reinstating Employees
The Governorate of As-Suwayda has officially announced the formation of a specialized committee tasked with overseeing the reinstatement of public sector employees who were dismissed during the course of the Syrian conflict. Governor Mustafa Al-Bakour confirmed the initiative, which targets former staff members previously employed by the Ministry of Local Administration and Environment, as well as those who served within local administrative units in the province.
According to an announcement shared by the governorate’s official communications channel on Monday, affected individuals are required to submit formal applications for reinstatement to the newly established committee. The committee is headquartered at the governorate building in the town of Al-Soura Al-Saghirah. Applicants must provide all necessary official documentation, which will then be subject to review and verification in accordance with established administrative procedures.
This move follows a broader policy initiative recently outlined by the Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Mohamed Anjarini. During a press conference held last Wednesday, Minister Anjarini detailed the national efforts to reintegrate civil servants who had been dismissed due to their involvement in the protests and events that began in 2011.
National statistics provided by the Ministry indicate that the total number of individuals dismissed under these circumstances reached 8,014 across various governorates. Of this total, authorities have already processed the return of 6,520 employees, marking a reintegration rate of approximately 81 percent. The Ministry further clarified that 1,494 individuals have not yet submitted their paperwork for reinstatement, primarily due to their failure to meet the specific legal or administrative requirements set by the government for returning to their former posts.
The initiative in As-Suwayda serves as a local implementation of this national program, providing a clear pathway for eligible personnel in the province to resolve their employment status. The provincial authorities emphasized that the committee is prepared to handle the incoming requests, which are intended to facilitate the return of these workers to their roles within the state apparatus. While the process remains subject to vetting, the announcement provides a definitive framework for those seeking to resume their public service roles after years of separation from their positions.
