Tennis Tournament Kicks Off in Safita with 36 Competitors

The city of Safita in the Tartus Governorate has officially launched a new tennis tournament, drawing participation from 36 male and female players representing a wide range of age groups. The event is organized by the Tennis Technical Committee in Tartus as part of a broader initiative to boost local sporting activity and revitalize interest in the sport across the region.

Bassem Rahal, head of the Tartus Tennis Technical Committee, emphasized that the primary objective of the tournament is to identify and nurture outstanding talent. The ultimate goal is to form a provincial representative team, with organizers focusing on providing the necessary technical and physical training to prepare these athletes for future competitive opportunities.

Trainer Sandy Mohammed highlighted the extensive preparation that preceded the event, noting that the tournament launch was the culmination of a full month of intensive training. This was further supplemented by a one-day training camp designed to refine the participants’ skills and ensure they reached the required level of technical and physical readiness. Mohammed underscored that the competition serves as a valuable platform for players to exchange experiences and develop the essential competitive skills needed for their athletic growth.

Reflecting on the event, player Rola Mohammed Qahwaji, who is competing in the under-18 category, expressed her enthusiasm for the tournament. Qahwaji, a former runner-up in the women’s championship, stated that she is aiming for a first-place finish in this edition. She added that such competitions serve as a vital motivation to improve her skills and represent an important step in her preparation for upcoming sporting engagements.
