Syrian Atomic Energy Commission Launches Nuclear Engineering Courses

In an effort to bolster academic and technical cooperation, the Syrian Atomic Energy Commission (SAEC) has announced the commencement of lectures for fourth-year nuclear engineering students. The program is set to run throughout the first semester of the 2026–2027 academic year.
This initiative is the result of ongoing, close collaboration between the Syrian Atomic Energy Commission and the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Damascus University. The primary objective of this partnership is to provide the nation’s energy and nuclear science sectors with highly qualified national professionals.
The academic curriculum features a specialized range of courses designed to provide students with advanced scientific and technical expertise. The syllabus includes core subjects such as neutron analysis and design, nuclear reactor engineering, the interaction of radiation with matter, and studies in radiation detection and shielding. Instruction is being delivered by a group of expert professors and specialists in the field of nuclear science and technology.
From an organizational perspective, lectures are being held at the administrative headquarters of the Syrian Atomic Energy Commission. These sessions run in parallel with the curriculum at the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, ensuring that the educational process remains aligned with the official study programs approved by both institutions.
This initiative is part of a broader strategic effort to support specialized university education and to foster an environment where students can bridge theoretical knowledge with practical and technical application. By doing so, the program aims to cultivate national talent capable of working effectively within the nuclear science sector. This collaboration highlights the integrated roles of the state’s research and educational institutions in developing scientific curricula and addressing the demands of the local labor market. The partnership serves to support technical development and advancement in specialized fields, contributing to the broader goals of national development in Syria.
