Security Operation Targets ISIS Cell in Rural Damascus
Internal Security Forces have carried out a precise security operation in the town of Rankous, located in the western countryside of Damascus, targeting a cell affiliated with the terrorist organization “ISIS.” This operation is part of ongoing efforts by Syrian security agencies to track down armed cells and reinforce stability throughout the region.
According to an official statement released by the Internal Security Forces via their Telegram channel, the operation was executed in close coordination and cooperation with the General Intelligence Directorate. This collaboration allowed security forces to surprise the cell and successfully neutralize it. The mission is part of a series of proactive measures implemented by the relevant authorities to undermine the activities of extremist groups attempting to compromise the security of the governorate.
In a related development, reports indicate that the General Intelligence Directorate successfully thwarted a separate terrorist plot on the 16th of this month. That planned attack was aimed at a police patrol in the Rif Dimashq governorate. Security reports clarified that this proactive operation, conducted in cooperation with the Internal Security Forces, successfully uncovered the intentions of an ISIS-affiliated cell that was preparing to launch an assault against police personnel.
The recent operation in Rankous resulted in the arrest of the individuals involved, who were identified as (M.K.) and (A.H.). During the raid on the site, security forces discovered and seized an explosive device that had been prepared for detonation. The seizure successfully prevented a criminal act that could have threatened the lives of citizens or destabilized security within the town.
These field developments reflect the persistent pace of security operations in rural Damascus.
