Syria Condemns Killing of Youth in Daraa as Violation of Sovereignty

The Syrian Arab Republic has expressed its strong condemnation of the killing of a young man with special needs by Israeli forces, following a military incursion into the village of Jumla in the western countryside of Daraa.
In an official statement, Syrian authorities asserted that this aggressive act constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law. The government emphasized that the targeting of civilians reflects a total disregard for international values and charters.
Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates held the occupying authorities fully responsible for the consequences of this crime. The ministry noted that ongoing incursions and repeated attacks on Syrian citizens represent a clear violation of the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic and pose a direct threat to the security and stability of the region. Furthermore, the ministry warned that such aggressive practices directly hinder national efforts aimed at recovery and reconstruction across the country.
Addressing the international community, the Syrian Foreign Ministry demanded that international institutions fulfill their responsibilities to stop these repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian territory. It called for pressure to be placed on the occupying authorities to compel them to respect the rules of international law and international legitimacy resolutions. The statement affirmed that this ongoing aggression will not deter the Syrian state from upholding its sovereignty and legitimate rights.
This incident occurs amid a series of violations by the occupying forces of the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement. The forces have continued to carry out frequent incursions into southern Syria, which include raids on civilian homes, arrest campaigns, land bulldozing, and attacks using shells.
It is noteworthy that the Syrian Foreign Ministry issued a similar statement on the 18th of this month, condemning the recent escalation in incursions within the Quneitra and Daraa governorates. That statement coincided with an intensification of flights by warplanes, helicopters, and reconnaissance aircraft over southern regions, characterizing these actions as a flagrant violation of Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity, and a direct threat to the safety and security of Syrian citizens.
