Rif Dimashq Authorities Record 358 Regulatory Violations
The Rif Dimashq Governorate saw an intensive week of regulatory oversight as the Directorate of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection conducted widespread inspections to monitor market activity. Between September 3 and 9, authorities recorded 358 regulatory violations against various commercial facilities and businesses.
Abdul Salam Khaled, Director of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection in Rif Dimashq, stated that the inspection campaign involved extensive field visits to 1,205 commercial entities and 59 factories across the governorate’s markets. As part of these efforts, specialized teams collected samples of food and non-food items for laboratory analysis to ensure they meet Syrian standards and consumer safety requirements.
The violations documented by the inspection patrols included selling goods above the set price, failure to display price lists, non-compliance with administrative instructions, and the absence of formal invoices. Additionally, authorities confiscated expired products that were being offered for sale, marking a continued effort to curb fraudulent activities and market manipulation.
To strengthen market oversight and ensure the availability of high-quality goods at appropriate prices, the directorate deployed 122 inspection patrols throughout the region. Khaled noted that the office also resolved 19 consumer complaints filed directly by citizens. He emphasized that these measures are part of a broader policy to tighten regulatory control, protect consumers, and maintain stability in the local market.
Khaled encouraged the public to continue cooperating with regulatory authorities by reporting any observed violations or irregularities. He stated that such community participation is essential to supporting efforts to monitor markets and prevent practices that could jeopardize public safety or consumer rights.
This campaign follows similar regulatory initiatives currently being implemented by Internal Trade and Consumer Protection directorates across all Syrian governorates. The ongoing efforts aim to ensure that commercial establishments adhere to established regulations, guarantee the availability of essential goods, and protect citizens from price volatility and monopolistic practices.
