Jordan Calls on International Community to Halt Israeli Strikes on Syria

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has officially condemned the recent Israeli airstrikes targeting the Abu al-Duhur military airport in Syria’s Idlib province. In a strong statement issued on Tuesday, the Jordanian government characterized the strikes as an unjustified act of aggression and a flagrant violation of Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Fouad al-Majali, spokesperson for the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, utilized the social media platform X to voice the Kingdom’s position. He emphasized that the military operation constitutes a breach of both the United Nations Charter and fundamental principles of international law. Jordan asserted that such actions serve only to escalate regional instability, contributing to ongoing conflict rather than resolving the complex security situation in the region.
In his statement, Al-Majali urged the international community to move beyond rhetoric and fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities. He explicitly called upon global powers to exert pressure on Israel to cease what he termed “provocative and illegal attacks” on Syrian soil. Furthermore, the Jordanian representative underscored the necessity of respecting the sovereignty of nations and adhering to established international norms, including the cessation of the occupation of Syrian territories.
The Jordanian government reiterated its consistent policy regarding the Syrian conflict, reaffirming its support for the restoration of peace and stability in the country. Amman emphasized that any efforts moving forward should prioritize the preservation of Syria’s unity, sovereignty, and the safety of its citizens, as well as support for reconstruction efforts on a foundation that guarantees national stability.
This latest condemnation from Jordan follows an earlier statement from the Syrian government, which also denounced the airstrikes on the Abu al-Duhur military facility. Damascus characterized the event as a dangerous escalation, reiterating that such military actions represent a severe infringement on the nation’s sovereign rights and pose a direct threat to the security of the broader region. The intensity of the diplomatic response reflects the ongoing regional concerns regarding the impact of continued cross-border military activities on Syria’s long-term stability and internal recovery efforts.
