Raqqa Emergency Teams Monitor Euphrates Water Levels
Emergency teams in the Raqqa governorate are conducting daily monitoring of the Euphrates River’s water levels to ensure the stability of vital infrastructure and public facilities. The initiative, overseen by the Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management in Raqqa, follows a recent increase in water flow from the Turkish side, prompting proactive measures to mitigate any potential impact on local resources.
According to Rami Al-Saloum, head of the Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management, teams have been deployed to inspect critical infrastructure along both the eastern and western banks of the river. These field operations include a systematic assessment of the integrity of transport routes, structural stability of essential facilities, and the operational readiness of drinking water stations.
Recent inspections focused on six water stations in the eastern countryside of Raqqa, where teams are currently working to reinforce the stations and secure the access roads leading to them. Al-Saloum confirmed that there are no current indicators of risk that would warrant public concern, emphasizing that the situation remains under constant observation.
As part of the regional strategy to manage the water flow, the Directorate of Water Resources in Raqqa established an emergency response room last Saturday. This body is tasked with tracking water levels and coordinating the readiness of all service-providing sectors to handle the increased volume of water passing through the river.
The management of water resources has necessitated temporary, precautionary adjustments to local operations. On Monday, authorities temporarily suspended the operation of three water pumping stations located in the areas of Howaijat Zahra, Al-Burjab, and Al-Hammam. This measure was implemented after water levels rose by approximately 50 centimeters, ensuring that the equipment remained protected while teams evaluated the situation. Service in these areas remains subject to ongoing technical assessments to determine when they can resume full functionality safely.
Al-Saloum has urged local residents to rely exclusively on information released by official government channels. By prioritizing verified data, the authorities aim to prevent the spread of rumors and misinformation regarding the state of the river. The ongoing monitoring effort represents a coordinated attempt by provincial departments to maintain essential services and infrastructure integrity across the Raqqa governorate during periods of fluctuating river flow.
