Innovative Maintenance Technique Repairs Irrigation Lines in Tartus

Technical teams from the Water Resources Directorate in Tartus have successfully completed a precise maintenance operation on a critical irrigation line in the village of Al-Souda. This initiative is part of ongoing government efforts to upgrade agricultural infrastructure and ensure the reliability of essential services for local farmers.

The repair work focused on addressing a failure in a 500mm asbestos irrigation pipeline. To resolve the issue, technicians employed an innovative maintenance method designed to minimize water leakage and ensure efficient delivery to agricultural lands. Mohamed Mehrez, Director of Water Resources in Tartus, stated that the new technique involved installing a 120cm chrome clamp. This approach allowed for a sophisticated technical repair without the need for traditional, costly interventions.

Mehrez explained that this procedure bypassed the need to replace broken valves or gaskets. Furthermore, it enabled the team to address pitted and damaged sections of the pipe directly, eliminating the need to replace entire segments of the line. This advancement directly contributes to reducing maintenance costs and saving time and effort, while simultaneously increasing the efficiency of repairs within irrigation networks that have been affected by aging materials.

This accomplishment secures the ongoing irrigation of approximately 220 hectares of farmland spanning the villages of Al-Souda, Kartu, and Al-Busaisa. By stabilizing water supply, the project provides essential support to farmers in these areas, ensuring the continuity of their agricultural activities.

In a related effort, the Water Resources Directorate in Tartus continues to execute a series of maintenance and repair projects in other rural regions. The directorate recently addressed faults in networks and lines in the Tal al-Housh area. These operations covered approximately 297 hectares of agricultural land, reflecting a broader strategic plan to improve irrigation infrastructure. The initiative aims to guarantee that irrigation water reaches all targeted farmlands, thereby ensuring the long-term sustainability of agricultural production throughout the province.
