Civil Defense Extinguishes Forest and Agricultural Fires in Tartus
Emergency response teams in Tartus successfully extinguished two significant fires that broke out in agricultural and forested areas within the province this Thursday. The operations, led by the Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management, prevented the spread of flames and protected local vegetation from further destruction.
According to the Director of the Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management in Tartus, Abdul Moneim Sateef, the first and most substantial incident occurred in the village of Al-Bayda, located in the Banias region. The fire, which consumed both agricultural land and forested areas, required an intensive three-hour operation to bring under control. The effort involved a coordinated response between official emergency crews and local residents, who worked together to cordon off the area and ensure that no smoldering remnants could reignite.
Shortly after the containment of the first blaze, response teams were dispatched to a secondary fire involving dry brush and grass near the Jeninat Raslan roundabout in the Dreikish district. Teams were able to extinguish the flames quickly and proceeded to conduct cooling operations to ensure the site was entirely secure.
Following the successful containment of these incidents, Sateef emphasized that the Directorate remains in a state of high readiness to respond to reports of fires across all districts of the province. He highlighted the ongoing collaboration between the Civil Defense and the local community as a critical component in minimizing environmental damage and safeguarding the region’s vital green cover and agricultural output. The Directorate continues to urge vigilance as crews remain on standby to mitigate risks during the fire season.
These local interventions come during a period of increased pressure on emergency services across the country. In the 24 hours preceding the events in Tartus, Civil Defense units across Syria responded to and extinguished 124 fires. These widespread incidents resulted in minor injuries to three civilians, who received immediate medical attention, while property damage remained limited to material assets. Authorities continue to monitor high-risk areas to ensure prompt response times and to limit the impact of seasonal fires on the local economy and environment.
