Basil Abdul Aziz Abdul Hannan Appointed Minister of Industry and Trade

President Ahmed Al-Sharaa has issued Decree No. 189 of 2026, appointing Basil Abdul Aziz Abdul Hannan as the Minister of Industry, Internal Trade, and Consumer Protection in Syria. This appointment is part of ongoing organizational measures currently being implemented within the Syrian government.

The first article of the decree confirms the appointment of Abdul Hannan to his new ministerial role, while the second article mandates the repeal of any provisions contrary to this decree and calls for its communication to the relevant authorities for immediate execution.

Born in Aleppo in 1985, Minister Abdul Hannan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Energy Engineering from the University of Aleppo, which he earned in 2009. He possesses a strong academic and professional background, having completed advanced training in strategic planning, economic feasibility studies, and human resource management.

Throughout his professional career, Abdul Hannan served as a lecturer at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Aleppo. He also held various executive positions within the engineering industries sector in the city of Sheikh Najjar in Aleppo and contributed to industrial management in liberated areas. He gained extensive administrative and political experience while serving as the Minister of Economy and Resources in the Salvation Government from 2020 through the period of Syria’s liberation.

Prior to this current appointment, Abdul Hannan managed both the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade within the caretaker government. This prior experience provides him with in-depth knowledge of the critical economic and industrial files that intersect with his new responsibilities at the Ministry of Industry, Internal Trade, and Consumer Protection.

This cabinet reshuffle occurs as the Syrian government continues its efforts to stabilize state institutions and improve the performance of vital sectors. Key priorities for the government currently include the regulation of internal trade, market oversight, and consumer protection.
