Syrian Delegation to Compete in 2026 Asian Games in Japan
Syria is finalizing preparations to participate in the 20th edition of the Asian Games (Asiad 2026), set to take place in Japan from September 19 to October 4. The mission marks the country’s continued commitment to international sporting events.
The Syrian sports delegation consists of 15 athletes—10 men and 5 women—who will compete across nine different disciplines. The roster includes participation in wrestling, judo, kurash, karate, rhythmic gymnastics, table tennis, shooting, athletics, and electronic sports.
The delegation is led by head of mission Mohannad Haj Hamada, with Ghada Saleh serving as general administrator and Ghiad Darwish as the team doctor. The selected athletes will compete in their respective categories under the guidance of a dedicated coaching staff.
In the combat sports categories, Ibrahim Al-Tabaa will represent Syria in wrestling, coached by Mohammad Al-Faouri. Mohammad Omran Ajina will compete in judo under the supervision of coach Yahya Hasaba. In kurash, Majd Haj Qaddour will participate, coached by Mohannad Sham. The karate team features athletes Fawaz Bani Marja and Mohammad Darwish, coached by Ammar Al-Subsi.
Regarding individual and technical sports, Alissa Daoud will compete in rhythmic gymnastics under coach Ekaterina Severina. In table tennis, Hind Zaza and Rachel Abboud will represent the country, overseen by coach Hadia Abu Sham. The shooting team includes athletes Wissam Jaafar and Fadi Hamdan, coached by Qusay Sweidan, while Mohammad Amin Salameh will compete in athletics.
Syria is also participating in the electronic sports category with a team comprising Muawiya Al-Hammadi, Nour Al-Saadi, Ayman Makhzouma, and Hazar Salloum. The e-sports contingent will be supported by Mohammad Saeed Sharaf and coach Omar Naqaa.
This continental event will host over 11,000 athletes representing 45 nations. The Syrian competitors are looking forward to delivering a strong performance across their respective fields during the two-week tournament in Japan.
