Syria and Libya Sign Agreement to Enhance Bilateral Cooperation

In an effort to strengthen foreign relations and bilateral cooperation, the Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Bassam Sabbagh, signed an agreement on Sunday in Tripoli, Libya. The agreement is aimed at developing ties between the two nations and reactivating previous agreements related to the joint high committee.

This move comes as part of a broader effort by both countries to update the legal and political frameworks governing their bilateral relations. The new agreement seeks to adjust and improve the operational mechanisms of the joint high committee, ensuring they align with current political developments in both countries and facilitate enhanced coordination and joint action.

The signing ceremony was held in the presence of the Prime Minister of the Libyan Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh. The Libyan side was represented by the official in charge of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Taher Al-Baour.

On the sidelines of the visit, the Syrian Foreign Minister held a series of significant meetings with senior Libyan officials. These included discussions with the Libyan Minister of Oil and Gas, Khalifa Abdul Sadiq, and the Chairman and CEO of the Libyan Investment Authority, Dr. Ali Mahmoud Hassan. The meetings focused on exploring ways to bolster bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy and strategic investment.

During the discussions, both parties examined mechanisms to expand their economic partnership and exchange technical and administrative expertise in the energy and investment sectors, which are considered of mutual importance to both nations. These diplomatic and economic activities take place as both parties seek to open new avenues for cooperation and enhance integration in service and development sectors, reflecting a shared desire to elevate bilateral relations to levels that serve their common interests.
