Sabotage Attack Targets Gas Pipeline in Deir ez-Zor

A fire broke out on Monday evening along a gas transport pipeline situated between the Al-Shula area and Deir ez-Zor governorate following a sabotage attack on the line’s sectional valve, according to official reports.
Hisham Al-Saleh, head of the gas sector at the Syrian Petroleum Company, stated that the incident directly halted gas pumping operations from the Jbessa plant toward electricity generation stations. This disruption is expected to impact the stability of energy supplies in the region.
Upon receiving notification of the incident, firefighting crews and relevant authorities initiated emergency response operations. Teams worked to isolate the fire site by securing the pipeline on both sides of the explosion to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further. Al-Saleh noted that firefighting crews are continuing their field efforts to fully extinguish the fire, a task currently complicated by low gas pressure within the damaged network.
The region between Al-Shula and Deir ez-Zor is considered a vital and strategic area, hosting an extensive network of infrastructure and essential pipelines linked to the country’s gas production and transport operations. This incident occurs as relevant institutions strive to maintain the safety of energy sector infrastructure and ensure the continuity of operations, particularly amid the complex field conditions present in the area.
Official authorities have not yet released additional details regarding the nature of the sabotage or the identity of those responsible. Meanwhile, technical operations are underway to assess the damage and begin repair procedures to restore gas pumping to its normal state as quickly as possible.
