New International Film Screenings Arrive in Damascus and Aleppo
Movie theaters in Damascus and Aleppo are debuting a new slate of international films this week, offering audiences a diverse array of genres including thrillers, romantic dramas, and comedies. The current lineup features several notable titles that explore various human experiences and social narratives.
Leading the selection is the American thriller “The Whale’s Fall,” directed by Brian Duffield and starring Josh Brolin and Austin Abrams. The film follows the perilous journey of a diver attempting to retrieve the remains of his father from the ocean floor. The situation turns dire when he becomes trapped inside a 60-ton whale, forcing him into a race against time and a confrontation with death as his oxygen supply begins to run out. The film is currently screening at Cinema City in Damascus and Al-Zahraa Cinema in Aleppo.
For audiences interested in romantic drama, “Practical Magic 2” is now showing at Al-Zahraa Cinema in Aleppo. The film revisits a story of family secrets 25 years after the events of the original production. Starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, the narrative focuses on the women of the family as they work to break an ancient curse, confronting their dark past and making life-altering decisions about their romantic futures.
Comedy enthusiasts can also catch “The Love Hypothesis” at Al-Zahraa Cinema in Aleppo. Directed by Claire Scanlon and starring Lili Reinhart and Nicholas Duvernay, the film depicts two scientists who are drawn into a fake romantic relationship. As the story unfolds, their own theories on love are put to the test, forcing them to re-evaluate their feelings and the terms of their initial agreement.
These screenings highlight the variety of international cinematic experiences available in Syrian theaters this week. By bringing these American productions to Damascus and Aleppo, local venues continue to offer fans of the silver screen the opportunity to enjoy a mix of high-stakes adventure and poignant human stories.
