National Library of Syria Launches Specialized Research Course

As part of its ongoing efforts to develop young talent and enhance knowledge-based research skills, the National Library of Syria has announced the launch of an intensive specialized course titled “The Craft of Scientific Research in the Humanities.” The program is scheduled to run from October 25 to 28.

This initiative serves as a practical step designed to equip graduate students and young researchers with the essential methodological tools required for contemporary academic documentation and publishing. Through this program, the library aims to create a high-quality training platform that streamlines the academic writing process. The curriculum is specifically designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, serving both the education sector and community development, while fulfilling the library’s role in preserving the nation’s intellectual output. Interested participants can register through a dedicated link on the library’s official Facebook page.

The training program encompasses nine fundamental themes vital to scientific research. These range from the concepts of research narrative and manuscript structure to methods of field data collection, as well as standards for linguistic and substantive editing. The workshops also cover the phases of the writing process that follow initial drafting. A key emphasis of the sessions is to demystify the pathways of scientific publication and overcome traditional theoretical obstacles, ensuring high academic standards and contributing to intellectual and developmental goals while avoiding stagnation in research output.

Dr. Saeed Hijazi, Director-General of the National Library of Syria, explained that the course is structured as a 20-hour intensive program. This duration is divided into 12 hours of theoretical lectures and 8 hours of collaborative practical applications for participants. Hijazi noted that the program primarily targets master’s and doctoral students, as well as undergraduate students approaching graduation. He emphasized that participants who commit to attending the course and completing the required research projects will be awarded official certificates of participation, which will serve to strengthen their professional credentials.

This course is part of an ongoing series of programs and workshops recently organized by the National Library to train national cadres in documentation, manuscript preservation, and knowledge-based research. These efforts reflect a strategic shift in the role of the National Library; it is no longer limited to acting as a traditional heritage repository for document preservation. Instead, it is evolving into an active platform that contributes to the creation of contemporary Syrian knowledge, protects national intellectual production, and fosters specialized scientific dialogue among the younger generation.
