Syria and Oman Discuss Cooperation in Bus Manufacturing and Transport

Official talks were held in Damascus between Syrian and Omani representatives, focusing on strengthening cooperation in the transport sector. The discussions are part of a broader effort to modernize Syria’s national transport fleet.
Syrian Minister of Transport, Yareub Badr, met with Ibrahim bin Ali Al Balushi, CEO of the Oman National Transport Company, to examine investment opportunities within the Syrian market. During the meeting at the Ministry of Transport in Damascus, Minister Badr highlighted the importance of fostering partnerships with fraternal nations. He emphasized the necessity of leveraging Omani expertise to develop the transport sector and update the Syrian bus fleet. Furthermore, the Minister noted the importance of integrating modern technologies and electronic applications into transport services to improve operational efficiency and streamline service delivery for citizens.
In response, the CEO of the Oman National Transport Company expressed significant interest in exploring investment opportunities in Syria. He underscored the company’s objective to establish sustainable partnerships that fulfill the requirements of the Syrian transport sector while simultaneously strengthening the presence of Omani industry in regional markets.
The Oman National Transport Company is a specialized industrial entity that began production in 2021 within the Duqm Special Economic Zone. The company’s production lines focus on manufacturing intra-city buses, school buses, and inter-city travel coaches. Additionally, the firm is seeking to expand its production scope to include armored vehicles.
These discussions take place as Syria prioritizes the modernization of its transport sector within its current investment plans. This focus is driven by an urgent need to develop the country’s transport infrastructure and increase reliance on digital management solutions. These initiatives provide a foundation for collaboration with companies specializing in vehicle manufacturing and transport technologies, aiming to transfer the industrial and technical expertise necessary to advance logistics services in the country.
This development reflects Syria’s interest in attracting foreign investment and activating regional cooperation in transport. Such efforts are particularly significant in light of ongoing attempts to modernize the existing fleet in alignment with global technical standards and advancements in public transport services.
