Mosaic Forum Holds First Meeting to Unify Syrian Diaspora Organizations

The German state of Saarland hosted the inaugural “Mosaic” forum on the 18th of this month, bringing together representatives from 47 Syrian organizations and associations operating across Europe. The event saw the participation of 120 individuals representing civil society institutions from Germany, Luxembourg, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Austria. The initiative aims to enhance mutual cooperation and facilitate the exchange of expertise among Syrian diaspora organizations.

Discussions during the forum focused on the current operational landscape for Syrian associations in Europe and the challenges they face. Participants also explored ways to coordinate efforts to bridge the gap between resources and expertise available abroad and the needs of communities within Syria. A strong emphasis was placed on the importance of projects related to Arabic language education, youth empowerment, and the support of cultural and social initiatives. Furthermore, participants highlighted the necessity of preserving Syrian identity and heritage as part of a broader commitment to achieving educational and humanitarian recovery in their home country.

Abdullah Al-Ahmad, a member of the Mosaic forum’s board of directors, stated that the core objective of the gathering is to establish a shared space where Syrian associations can build practical and sustainable partnerships. According to Al-Ahmad, these partnerships will focus on key sectors, including education, media, and humanitarian work. He noted that the high turnout reflects a genuine desire among Syrians abroad to unify their efforts and effectively serve the Syrian community.

Looking toward the future, Al-Ahmad announced that plans are underway to form a coordination and follow-up committee. This committee will include representatives from participating associations and will be tasked with tracking proposals, setting shared priorities, and preparing for the signing of memorandums of understanding. These agreements are designed to ensure that dialogue between institutions translates into tangible projects. He added that the upcoming phase will focus on developing a clear operational plan under the banner, “Partners in Construction, Partners in Success.”

This forum is part of a broader series of efforts led by Syrian institutions in Europe to strengthen ties to their homeland. The initiative seeks to organize the skills and contributions of the Syrian diaspora into structured entities capable of providing the necessary support for recovery and development projects within Syria, effectively utilizing external expertise for internal advancement.
