Medical ‘Recovery 2’ Campaign Launches in Three Syrian Governorates

The medical campaign “Recovery 2” officially launched on Sunday across three Syrian governorates: Damascus, Homs, and Deir ez-Zor. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the organization Action for Humanity and the Ministries of Health and Higher Education.
The campaign aims to deliver specialized medical services to patients unable to afford treatment. Additionally, it seeks to support and enhance the skills of local medical professionals through the exchange of expertise with visiting specialists. Munir Hakimi, a consultant orthopedic surgeon and head of the board of trustees for Action for Humanity, stated that this campaign follows the success of “Recovery 1,” which was carried out in September 2025. The current edition involves approximately 30 doctors from the United Kingdom and other nationalities, with medical services and training activities scheduled to run for five days.
The range of medical services offered includes orthopedic surgery, spine surgery, ophthalmology, general surgery, and pediatric orthopedic surgery. The campaign also features advanced medical interventions, such as the implantation of cardiac pacemakers, alongside clinics specializing in cardiology, nephrology, neurology, and thoracic medicine. Hakimi emphasized that the primary beneficiaries are patients impacted by the war who face difficulties accessing specialized healthcare due to financial constraints.
Beyond direct patient care, the campaign includes an intensive training program for residents and nursing staff in university hospitals. This program features daily scientific lectures and practical workshops. By working alongside visiting specialists and local anesthesiologists, the local medical teams aim to improve performance and develop new techniques for managing complex cases.
In Homs, the Homs Grand Hospital has begun receiving patients in its nephrology clinic. The hospital’s director, Maan Mahmoud Fahd, noted that the facility has been equipped with necessary medical supplies, including ultrasound devices, to serve patients suffering from acute and chronic kidney diseases. Fahd added that the hospital treats a high number of renal failure patients monthly, and this campaign serves to strengthen the hospital’s capacity to provide high-quality care.
The specialized clinics are operating from October 11 to 15 at the Homs University Hospital and the Homs Grand Hospital, with services provided daily from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The campaign has seen significant engagement from the local community, with patients highlighting the importance of such initiatives in managing conditions that require continuous specialized care and reducing the healthcare burden on those in need.
