Kassab Green Festival Highlights Tourism and Cultural Heritage
The annual ‘Kassab Green’ festival officially opened this Saturday at the Kassab Tourism Complex in Latakia, drawing large crowds and marking a significant effort to bolster regional tourism and local economic activity. Organized by the Latakia Tourism Directorate under the patronage of the Syrian Ministry of Tourism, and held in cooperation with the Armenian Orthodox Diocese of Aleppo and its dependencies, the event aims to spotlight the natural and cultural wealth of the mountainous region.
The festival features a diverse array of activities designed to engage visitors from across the country. Attendees are treated to artistic performances, traditional heritage exhibitions, and displays of local handicrafts. A dedicated space for children has been a focal point of the event, alongside a procession led by a brass band that marched through the city square, creating a vibrant atmosphere that resonated with both local residents and visitors who traveled from various Syrian governorates to participate.
Fadi Nizam, the Director of Tourism for Latakia, emphasized the strategic importance of the festival, noting that it is hosted along one of the governorate’s most significant mountain tourism routes. According to Nizam, the initiative is part of a broader strategy to revitalize the local economy by promoting the unique natural products and cultural heritage that distinguish Kassab. The event has drawn a high turnout, including representatives from local government, community leaders, and tourism security, as well as visitors from neighboring countries, all contributing to the festive atmosphere.
Participants in the exhibition expressed optimism regarding the event’s impact. Miri Sabonji, a participant who showcased handcrafted goods and children’s sweets, noted that the high level of organization and the positive atmosphere provided a much-needed venue for families to enjoy their summer. She highlighted that such events are vital for restoring the city’s social and tourism presence.
Another visitor, Marmarant Akub, noted that the festival serves as a meaningful occasion to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption while fostering stronger social connections among the Syrian community. The festival’s programming serves as a key pillar in the ongoing efforts to support domestic tourism. By drawing visitors to Kassab, the initiative facilitates growth in the service and retail sectors while educating the public about the area’s distinct cultural traditions.
