Hama University Pharmacy Students Launch Applied Giving Camp
In an effort to enhance the practical skills of pharmacy students and connect their academic studies with real-world field experience, the Faculty of Pharmacy at Hama University has launched the “Pharmaceutical Giving Camp.” The volunteer-based, production-oriented initiative involves 50 fourth-year students and is scheduled to run until September 10th.
The camp provides students with a unique opportunity to interact directly with clinical cases under the supervision of specialized professionals. Dr. Tayseer Al-Azzam, Scientific Deputy Dean of the Faculty and leader of the camp, stated that this is the first time such an initiative has been held. He emphasized that the program aims to solidify the academic knowledge students have acquired and improve their proficiency in handling prescriptions and dispensing medication in accordance with professional standards.
Dr. Al-Azzam noted that the camp focuses on providing participants with hands-on experience across various medical disciplines, including pediatrics, dermatology, and urology. The training also covers post-surgical consultations and pain management protocols.
Dr. Tala Qanbar, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Hama University, underscored the importance of such activities in bridging the gap between the university and the local community. She explained that the primary objective is to increase student competence to ensure the delivery of pharmaceutical services that contribute to patient health and safety. Dr. Qanbar also expressed her vision for developing an automated, collaborative work system between physicians and pharmacists in the near future to guarantee the precision of healthcare services.
Amal Al-Jamal, a participating student, described the nature of the field activities, noting that the second day of the training program focused intensively on urological and reproductive diseases. This module allowed students to receive detailed briefings from medical specialists regarding various clinical cases and how to provide medication counseling to patients in a safe and effective manner, ultimately enhancing patient-pharmacist communication skills.
The Faculty of Pharmacy at Hama University, located in the Al-Sharia neighborhood and established in 2014, seeks through these volunteer programs to provide the health sector with practically qualified graduates. The faculty maintains a comprehensive educational infrastructure, including scientific laboratories, lecture halls, and classrooms designed to support the academic progress of its students.
