Daraa’s Al-Hirak National Hospital Serves 6,000 Patients Monthly

Al-Hirak National Hospital in the Daraa countryside continues to play a vital role as a primary medical center for the residents of Al-Hirak and approximately 15 surrounding towns and villages. The facility currently handles more than 6,000 patient visits each month across various medical specialties, reflecting ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare services in the region.
Dr. Ali Al-Hariri, the hospital’s director, stated that patients utilize a wide range of services, including emergency care, outpatient clinics, and inpatient wards. Dr. Al-Hariri emphasized the importance of the next phase for the facility, noting that it requires additional nursing and technical staff, as well as more specialized physicians. He also highlighted plans to activate the pediatric department and operationalize its dedicated oxygen network to ensure a more effective response to diverse medical cases.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Ghazali, an orthopedic surgery specialist, outlined the current surgical landscape at the hospital. He explained that medical teams perform a variety of procedures, ranging from minor surgeries—such as treating trigger finger—to complex operations, including joint replacements and pelvic surgeries. According to Dr. Al-Ghazali, more than 250 surgeries have been performed over the past four months. He stressed the necessity of separating orthopedic procedures from general surgery as a preventive measure to reduce the risk of cross-infection.
The hospital also provides laboratory testing and X-ray services, which have significantly eased the burden of travel and financial costs for patients who previously had to travel to Damascus for major procedures. Despite these improvements, hospital management has identified an urgent need to expand the surgical hall to accommodate the increasing number of patients.
Regarding the patient experience, resident Khalid Mousa Al-Turkmani praised the quality of free services provided at the hospital. However, he also pointed to logistical challenges that hinder operations, most notably the absence of an elevator. This deficiency places an additional burden on dialysis patients, individuals with disabilities, and patients with mobility issues following treatment.
Al-Hirak National Hospital derives its strategic importance from its location, centrally situated among several densely populated villages and towns in the eastern countryside of Daraa. As a cornerstone of the local health system, the ongoing development of its facilities and the provision of adequate staffing remain critical needs to ensure the consistent, high-quality delivery of medical services.
