Aleppo: Supply Inspectors Equipped with Body Cameras to Enhance Oversight

In a strategic effort to improve field monitoring tools and regulate markets, the Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Directorate in Aleppo has begun equipping supply inspectors with their first batch of portable body cameras. This initiative is part of a broader ministerial objective to enhance the quality of supply chain oversight and ensure that inspection procedures are accurately documented, thereby protecting the rights of both consumers and business owners.
Adel Hallaq, Deputy Director of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection in Aleppo, explained that the distribution of these cameras serves to further the ministry’s ongoing commitment to modernizing regulatory procedures. This follows the previous implementation of a Quick Response (QR) code system. Hallaq noted that the integration of this technology is expected to foster greater confidence among all parties involved in commercial transactions.
Mustafa Zakaria, Head of the Supply Division in the city of Atarib, highlighted the technical significance of the measure. He stated that the cameras will record the details of inspection tours, significantly reducing the potential for disputes between inspectors and business operators. According to Zakaria, this step provides essential protection for both sides and serves as an effective mechanism to deter misconduct, such as bribery or extortion attempts, ultimately reinforcing the integrity of regulatory operations within the governorate.
From a technical perspective, engineer Anas Al-Muhammad, a specialist with the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection, confirmed that the cameras are equipped with live-streaming technology. This allows the footage captured by inspectors to be transmitted in real-time to the ministry’s headquarters. This feature enables officials to monitor inspection tours as they happen, ensuring direct oversight of the inspectors’ performance while simultaneously prioritizing their safety during field duties.
This initiative is a key component of a comprehensive strategy adopted by the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection to integrate modern technology into supply oversight. The long-term objective is to ensure transparency in procedures, effectively address commercial violations, and elevate the standard of regulatory performance across all Syrian governorates.
