Damascus Hosts Workshop on Women, Peace, and Security Agenda
A workshop focused on the “Women, Peace, and Security” agenda commenced in Damascus on Wednesday. The event is organized by the inter-ministerial committee, in collaboration with the Syrian Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, UN Women, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and is being held at the Dama Rose Hotel.
The workshop represents a strategic effort to highlight mechanisms for activating the role of women within the security and peace sectors. The initiative aims to ensure the effective participation of women in decision-making processes, aligning with both national visions and international standards on the subject.
Throughout the sessions, participants are focusing on defining the foundational pillars of the Women, Peace, and Security agenda. Discussions include ways to bolster the concept of social justice as a comprehensive and cross-sectoral approach. Participants are working to link these concepts directly to the country’s recovery paths and sustainable development, with the goal of defining specific roles for various national institutions. This involves a thorough review of existing policies, programs, and the services provided to citizens.
One of the primary objectives of the workshop is to improve coordination mechanisms between the various ministries and relevant institutions. Furthermore, the event aims to develop authorized databases in this field to support an integrated approach to peacebuilding in Syria. These efforts are part of ongoing cooperation between Syrian government entities and international organizations, directed at improving the quality of services and empowering various social groups within the context of the country’s recovery programs.
