Cultural and Educational Events Scheduled Across Syria for August 16
Syrian cultural centers and community organizations across multiple provinces have announced a diverse schedule of educational and cultural events for Sunday, August 16, 2026. The program encompasses academic lectures, specialized workshops, and community-focused initiatives designed to engage various segments of the public.
In the capital, Damascus, the cultural calendar is particularly robust. The Damascus Cultural Forum is hosting a panel discussion at the Arab Cultural Center in Abu Rummaneh, focusing on the role of cultural centers in national development. The same venue will also feature a seminar on the impact of narcotics on individuals and society. Educational topics are prominent elsewhere, with a lecture on the integration of artificial intelligence in education scheduled at the Kafr Sousse Cultural Center, while the Mazzeh Cultural Center will host a session regarding personal identity in an evolving global landscape. Furthermore, the City Cinema in Damascus will screen a selection of films throughout the day.
Rif Dimashq is emphasizing youth engagement, with the Arab Cultural Center in Jayroud organizing a chess workshop for children. In the Saboura region, a poetry reading focusing on modern verse will be held, while in Daraya, the Martyr Yahya Sharbaji Center will host a lecture on values and social change as part of a week-long initiative by the ‘Fikr wa Binaa’ Foundation.
Activities in the Homs province include a drawing workshop in Shin focused on children’s health, and an awareness session in Talkalakh regarding the dangers posed by remnants of war. The Homs city center will host a lecture on the history and challenges surrounding the siege of Baba Amr at the University Graduates Association. Meanwhile, the Hama province is participating in the ‘Syria Summer Festival for Families’ at Umm al-Hassan Park, featuring children’s theater and cultural competitions.
In Tartus, the program includes artistic and educational activities, such as drawing and handicraft workshops for children at local cultural centers. The Tartus Cultural Center will also offer an astronomical lecture on stellar identification and the polar day, while the city’s central park will host a choir performance as part of the Syria Summer Festival. Children’s films are also scheduled for screening at the Al-Kindi Cinema.
The Latakia province will feature a lecture on the linguistic and literary significance of Surah Al-Fatihah in Jableh, followed by a poetry forum in the city of Latakia. The city’s Al-Kindi Cinema will conclude its showcase of films documenting the Syrian revolution with the feature film ‘Ahmed Maryam’.
Educational and community events are also scheduled for Aleppo, including a children’s theatrical performance and cinema screenings, and in Deir ez-Zor, where workshops on employment readiness and lectures on agricultural biodiversity are planned. In the Ar-Raqqah region, the Arab Cultural Center in Al-Jurniya will host a lecture on Islamic culture to conclude the day’s events across the country.
