Arab Parliament Welcomes UN Resolution on Palestinian Participation
The Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Mohamed Al-Yamahi, has officially welcomed the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of a resolution concerning the participation of the State of Palestine in the proceedings of its 81st session. The resolution was passed with the support of 152 member states.
In an official statement, Al-Yamahi described the overwhelming international support as a clear message rejecting all attempts to marginalize Palestine or silence the voice of its people in global forums. He characterized the decision as a victory for the Palestinian right to representation and participation, in accordance with the rules of multilateral cooperation and international legitimacy.
The Arab Parliament Speaker emphasized that the Palestinian cause remains a central focus of international concern. He asserted that the Palestinian people cannot be sidelined and their voice cannot be suppressed. According to Al-Yamahi, this diplomatic development reaffirms a commitment to the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, most notably their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, fully sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital, as stipulated by international law and international legitimacy.
Al-Yamahi called for full respect for relevant provisions, agreements, and the principles of international conduct. He warned against any attempts to utilize political procedures or restrictions to undermine the State of Palestine’s right to participate and be represented. Furthermore, he affirmed that the Arab Parliament will continue its efforts at the Arab, regional, and international levels to support the State of Palestine and its people, advocating for their legitimate national rights until the occupation is ended and an independent Palestinian state is realized.
The United Nations General Assembly adopted the resolution last Thursday, authorizing the State of Palestine to participate in the general deliberations of the 81st session. The measure received 152 votes in favor, with three countries voting against it and four abstaining. The resolution specifically provides for Palestine’s participation through the presentation of a pre-recorded message from its President within the General Assembly hall, a move viewed as a significant step in strengthening its presence within the international organization.
