Al-Suqaylabiyah Hospital Hosts Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar

The Women’s Health Unit at Al-Suqaylabiyah National Hospital in the Hama countryside has organized a specialized awareness seminar focused on the importance of early detection of breast cancer. The initiative is part of broader efforts to improve health awareness and strengthen preventive services available to women in the region.

The seminar was attended by the hospital’s medical and nursing staff. Hiam Faraj, the hospital’s reproductive health official, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the medical aspects of the disease. She emphasized that breast cancer remains a significant medical challenge that requires coordinated efforts to increase early diagnosis rates. Faraj highlighted that early detection directly contributes to improved treatment outcomes and higher recovery rates, necessitating intensified public health awareness campaigns.

Throughout the seminar, speakers focused on increasing women’s knowledge regarding risk factors and the early signs of the disease. The session also clarified the necessity of essential diagnostic procedures, including clinical evaluations, mammography, and biopsies. Understanding these steps is critical for obtaining an accurate diagnosis and determining the appropriate treatment protocol based on the specific stage of the disease.

In her statement, Faraj underscored that the role of midwives and healthcare workers extends beyond simple guidance. She noted that staff must be prepared to listen to women’s concerns, provide emotional support, and urgently refer suspected cases for necessary medical testing. These actions are vital to preventing diagnostic delays that could compromise the efficacy of treatment.

The seminar also reviewed the Global Breast Cancer Initiative, launched by the World Health Organization in 2021. This initiative provides global guidelines for strengthening health promotion, accelerating diagnosis, and providing integrated treatment options. The initiative aims to reduce breast cancer-related mortality by 2.5 percent annually, a target intended to save millions of lives globally by 2040.

This event coincides with the month of October, internationally recognized as the ‘Pink Month’ for breast cancer awareness. The campaign aims to highlight the importance of regular and self-examinations, encouraging women to proactively manage their health by visiting national healthcare centers for check-ups.
