Al-Hasakah: Plan to Support Returnees in Ras al-Ain

The Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor in Al-Hasakah Governorate is continuing its efforts to execute an integrated plan aimed at supporting displaced citizens returning to their homes in the city of Ras al-Ain and its surrounding countryside. The initiative is designed to provide the necessary assistance to returnee families, ensuring their stability as they resume their daily lives.
In a special statement, the Director of the Social Affairs and Labor Directorate, Ibrahim Khalaf, confirmed that the work is being carried out in close coordination with several international and humanitarian organizations operating in Al-Hasakah. This collaboration aims to accurately and effectively determine the scale and type of support required for the returning families.
To ensure that aid reaches the intended recipients, the directorate has begun accepting registrations for returning families at the Social Affairs office in Ras al-Ain. The registration process includes documenting family data, recording locations of resettlement, and assessing the living conditions of each household. This information is critical for establishing assistance priorities and developing a comprehensive support plan.
Regarding the specifics of the aid, Khalaf explained that the support package includes financial grants alongside non-food items. He noted that the initial phase focuses on financial support, which allows families to perform essential home repairs and secure basic household necessities such as blankets, mattresses, and kitchenware—all of which are vital for the rehabilitation of their residences.
In subsequent phases, the plan is set to shift its focus toward food security and the enhancement of sustainable livelihoods for these families. This stage of the initiative includes support for small-scale projects and manual trades, empowering returnees to become self-reliant and secure a stable source of income that contributes to their long-term stability.
It is worth noting that the Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor had previously issued calls for families currently residing in the city of Al-Hasakah—specifically those who had returned from displacement camps—to visit its offices to register their data and inventory their needs. This procedure serves as a precursor to their inclusion in the approved aid programs.
These measures occur during a period of notable activity regarding voluntary returns. The local areas in Ras al-Ain, located in the northern countryside of Al-Hasakah, have received successive groups of families. The first group consisted of 413 families, followed by a second group of 700, and a third of 520 families. Last Thursday, the region received a fourth group comprising 518 families, as part of ongoing efforts to facilitate the return of displaced persons to their original villages and towns.
