Syria and Oman Discuss Environmental Cooperation in Cairo

Syrian Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Muhammad Anjarini, held official discussions on Wednesday with Abdullah bin Ali Al-Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority of the Sultanate of Oman. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the fifth session of the Arab Environment Forum, hosted at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
The discussions centered on exploring avenues to strengthen bilateral cooperation and exchange expertise between the two nations across various environmental sectors. Both sides focused on addressing key issues of mutual interest, most notably mechanisms for environmental protection, collaborative efforts to confront mounting climate challenges, and strategies to support sustainable development paths that serve the interests of both Syria and Oman.
Additionally, the two officials addressed the importance of coordinating Arab positions on current environmental issues. This coordination is particularly relevant in the context of the preparations and preliminary meetings for the 37th session of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for the Environment. Both parties emphasized the necessity of unifying Arab perspectives to effectively address shared environmental risks.
Concluding the meeting, Minister Anjarini presented a commemorative gift to the Chairman of the Omani Environment Authority, symbolizing the depth of historical relations and fraternal ties between Syria and the Sultanate of Oman.
The fifth session of the Arab Environment Forum commenced yesterday under the theme “Rangeland Sustainability to Enhance Resilience.” The event is organized by the League of Arab States in cooperation with several international and regional organizations, including the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE), and the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development.
