Residents of Bashkoy, Aleppo, Urge Infrastructure and Service Repairs
Residents of the village of Bashkoy, located in the Haritan district of the northern Aleppo countryside, are facing severe challenges due to the collapse of local services and infrastructure. Years of conflict have left the village in a state of critical disrepair, with local reports estimating that approximately 95 percent of the area has been destroyed.
For current residents and returning displaced families, daily life is increasingly difficult. The community’s primary demands center on the urgent rehabilitation of essential utility networks, including water, sewage, and electricity. Additionally, residents are calling for the maintenance of vital roads connecting Bashkoy to the areas of Sifat, Sheikh Najjar, and the western countryside.
The current state of the road network is a significant hindrance, complicating the movement of students and patients. The poor conditions have led to increased transportation costs and delays in critical medical evacuations to hospitals in Aleppo city and the Haritan district.
Khaled Al-Jaghal, the director of the Haritan district, confirmed that the administration is working in coordination with the Aleppo Governorate and relevant authorities to develop the necessary studies to address these demands. He noted that efforts are underway to prioritize the rehabilitation of roads, schools, and water networks within the limits of currently available resources, with a focus on restoring basic services to affected villages across the northern countryside.
Rajab Al-Jaghal, a member of the village’s community committee, highlighted the absence of essential facilities such as bakeries and medical clinics. He explained that this lack of infrastructure exacerbates the population’s struggle to secure drinking water and fundamental healthcare, while also limiting the community’s ability to prevent the spread of illness. Residents have emphasized the need to remove earth berms from roads and carry out urgent repairs, particularly as the winter season approaches, to stabilize living conditions in the village.
Bashkoy, situated approximately 18 kilometers north of Aleppo, is among the areas being targeted for rehabilitation following recent liberation operations. The northern countryside is witnessing a series of service-oriented initiatives, such as the recently launched “Loyalty to Kafr Hamra” campaign, which aims to restore facilities and infrastructure in areas that have endured years of systemic decline.
