Daraa: Civil Defense Clears Bosra al-Sham Road of War Remnants
As part of ongoing efforts to secure Syrian regions from mines and explosive remnants of war, Civil Defense teams from the Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate in Daraa conducted a wide-scale clearance operation on Thursday along the Bosra al-Sham–Samej agricultural road. The teams successfully addressed several suspicious objects and war remnants that posed a direct threat to the lives of civilians.
Hassan al-Fashtaki, director of the War Remnants Clearance Center, stated that field teams were mobilized immediately after receiving reports from the Bosra al-Sham area regarding suspicious items spotted along the roadside. Al-Fashtaki confirmed that the engineering team established a security cordon to ensure public safety, followed by the safe disposal and detonation of the items according to approved technical procedures. A comprehensive survey of the entire area was subsequently conducted to guarantee it was free of further hazards.
The operation is vital given the importance of this route to the daily lives of local residents. The road serves as a primary agricultural and service artery connecting the town of Samej to the city of Bosra al-Sham. It experiences heavy traffic from agricultural machinery and is a frequent route for local citizens, as well as serving as the primary path to one of the region’s main cemeteries.
Nassar Qassim, the director of the Bosra al-Sham area, emphasized the essential role of cooperation between local residents and relevant authorities. He urged citizens to report any suspicious objects, noting that such vigilance is a fundamental pillar for enhancing security and stability in the province. Qassim pointed to the ongoing coordination between various public entities and demining teams to conduct comprehensive surveys of all agricultural roads in the region. He simultaneously called upon the public to exercise maximum caution and refrain from approaching any suspicious objects.
These efforts are part of a series of field operations aimed at clearing war remnants to ensure the safe resumption of agricultural and civilian activities. The Civil Defense demining engineering team in Daraa previously carried out a similar operation on the 10th of this month, during which four artillery mines discovered in farmland near the city of Bosra al-Sham were detonated. These efforts align with wider clearing operations across Syria, including the destruction of 1,500 mines in the vicinity of the Qara area in Rif Dimashq last August, aimed at restoring normalcy to areas previously affected by conflict.
