President Al-Sharaa Meets Chinese Delegation to Discuss Investments

President Ahmed Al-Sharaa held an extensive round of talks on Tuesday at the Presidential Palace in Damascus with a high-level Chinese economic delegation. The visiting group included representatives from several major Chinese companies and economic conglomerates, signaling a concerted effort to strengthen economic ties and develop strategic partnerships between the two nations.
The discussions primarily focused on reviewing available investment opportunities within the Syrian market and identifying methods to cultivate a favorable environment for Chinese investment in the coming period. Both sides examined mechanisms to enhance economic cooperation, placing specific emphasis on vital sectors such as industry, construction, and large-scale reconstruction projects—areas where Syria is actively seeking to expand the role of international partners.
The meeting was attended by a select group of Syrian officials overseeing the economic portfolio, including the Ministers of Energy, Public Works and Housing, Industry, and Internal Trade and Consumer Protection. Also participating in the talks were the Advisor to the Presidency for Economic Affairs and the General Director of the Syrian Investment Agency. Their attendance underscores the high level of importance the Syrian state places on this cooperation.
This meeting coincides with the launch of the ‘Syrian-Chinese Forum for Economic Development’ held in Damascus at the Four Seasons Hotel. The forum is organized by the Syrian-Chinese Business Council, in coordination with the Syrian-Chinese Center for Industrial City Twinning, and in close cooperation with the relevant Syrian ministries. The event is designed to serve as a platform for translating political understandings into concrete economic projects on the ground, ultimately contributing to the advancement of sustainable development and reconstruction efforts across the country.
