Road Infrastructure: Al-Qastal Bridge Rehabilitation Nears Completion
The General Establishment for Road Transport has announced that maintenance and rehabilitation works on the Al-Qastal bridge (B46), located on the Latakia-Ariha highway, have reached their final stages. These improvements are part of an ongoing, systematic effort to restore the national road network and ensure the safety of its users.
Iyad Mohammed, the project supervisor for the establishment, stated that technical teams have successfully completed pouring the concrete slab for the lane heading from Latakia to Ariha. Work is currently accelerating on the opposing lane, which connects Ariha to Latakia. The concrete pouring for this section is scheduled to be completed within the next two days. Following this, the project will proceed with cable tensioning, insulation, concrete protective measures, and finally, the application of the asphalt pavement layer.
Mohammed indicated that all work at the bridge site is expected to be finalized within two weeks. In addition to the bridge project, crews are currently addressing a ground subsidence issue in the “Burj al-Zawiya” area on the same highway. Workers are in the process of laying the base asphalt layer, with completion expected within one week. This is part of an integrated plan to address damaged sites according to approved technical specifications.
The rehabilitation of this highway is of significant importance, as the Latakia-Ariha route serves as a vital transport artery linking the Syrian coast with the northern regions. These maintenance works are designed to facilitate driver movement, save time, reduce travel distances, and enhance traffic safety on this strategic axis.
The project is being executed through a partnership between the General Establishment for Road Transport and the General Establishment for Construction and Execution, operating under direct engineering supervision. The teams are maintaining a rapid pace of work to ensure the restoration of natural traffic flow as soon as possible. Previously, the Director of the General Establishment for Road Transport, Muaz Najjar, noted that technical teams had established a 175-meter temporary traffic diversion on the old Latakia-Aleppo road to prevent disruptions and maintain public safety throughout the implementation period.
These activities fall within the framework of ongoing government efforts to rehabilitate damaged road infrastructure. The goal is to support transport and economic exchange between Syrian provinces, while ensuring the durability of vital road networks and increasing their technical and service efficiency.
