Syrian President Arrives in Riyadh for Official Visit

Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa arrived in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on Wednesday for an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. President Al-Sharaa is leading a high-level Syrian delegation to engage in extensive discussions with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The talks are expected to cover a range of issues of mutual interest and explore avenues for developing bilateral cooperation across various sectors.

The agenda for the visit includes the signing of several agreements intended to enhance cooperation in key sectors. These initiatives are designed to advance the relationship between Damascus and Riyadh toward broader horizons that serve the shared interests of both nations. This visit occurs within the context of growing ties between the two sides, with reports highlighting the importance Syria places on consolidating its political, security, and economic relationships with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Syrian delegation accompanying the President includes Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, Minister of Defense Major General Murhaf Abu Qasra, Minister of Finance Mohammed Yusr Barniya, and Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Bassel Abdul Hannan. The delegation is also accompanied by the Head of the General Intelligence Directorate, Major General Abdul Qader Tahan.

This visit carries additional significance as the two parties review past milestones in their relationship. Notably, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia served as the first destination for President Ahmed Al-Sharaa and his Foreign Minister following the liberation of Syria. That period marked the initiation of efforts to lift sanctions, restore stability, and establish new foundations for regional partnership. Through this visit, Damascus reaffirms its ongoing commitment to developing mechanisms for joint coordination with Riyadh, viewing this as a fundamental pillar of its foreign strategy to support regional stability, develop the structure of the Syrian economy, and foster cooperation in political and security sectors.
