50 New Schools Open in Idlib Countryside Ahead of Academic Year
The Directorate of Education in Idlib announced on Thursday the official opening of 50 new schools across the southern, eastern, and northern countryside of the province. This initiative aims to strengthen the local education system and support the stability of the pedagogical process.
The reopening follows comprehensive restoration and rehabilitation efforts. The schools have been fully equipped with essential educational supplies, with funding provided by the “Al-Wafa for Idlib” campaign in cooperation with local community organizations.
The official launch ceremonies began at Al-Risala School in the town of Al-Habit, located in the southern Idlib countryside. The primary event was held at the Abdul Karim Ramadan School in Maarat al-Nu’man, attended by the Minister of Education, Muhammad Abdul Rahman Turko, Idlib Governor Muhammad Abdul Rahman, and various figures involved in the province’s educational sector.
In a statement to the media, the Minister of Education emphasized that the opening of these schools marks a fundamental step in advancing education within Idlib. He noted that this achievement is the result of close cooperation between the Ministry, the provincial administration, and local community stakeholders. The Minister further stated that the total number of schools restored and put back into service in Idlib since the region’s liberation has now reached 650, adding that plans are underway to open additional facilities in the coming period.
Idlib’s Governor highlighted that current efforts are focused on rehabilitating vital sectors alongside preparations for the new academic year. Schools have been furnished with necessary desks, whiteboards, and other educational furniture. The Governor affirmed that this approach is part of a broader government strategy to revitalize affected areas, provide suitable conditions to encourage displaced persons and local residents to return, and stabilize their communities. These initiatives are being carried out in tandem with ongoing infrastructure projects, including improvements to water networks, electricity, sewage systems, and roads.
Furthermore, the Minister of Education noted that the government places high priority on the education sector. Work is currently underway to update regulations governing the educational process in Syria, which includes modernizing the teachers’ affairs law and developing curricula to better serve the requirements of the current stage. In concluding the events, officials underscored the importance of these projects in fostering social stability and restoring hope to students and their families, while expressing their appreciation for the efforts made by local and international organizations and supporting bodies to ensure the success of these vital initiatives.
