200 Students Honored at Quran Memorization Ceremony in Rif Dimashq

The administration of the intensive Quran memorization course in the town of Hamouriya, Rif Dimashq, hosted an awards ceremony on Sunday to honor 200 male and female students. Held at the Al-Khawlani Mosque, the event celebrated the participants of the ‘Khairat Hassan’ program for their dedication to memorizing portions of the Quran or completing the entire text.

During the ceremony, Mohammad Ali Amer, director of the Eastern Ghouta area, highlighted that the initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen educational and pedagogical programs across mosques in Eastern Ghouta. He expressed his hope that such courses would continue to play a key role in instilling the teachings of the Quran in the hearts of the younger generation.

Anas Lathqani, director of Quranic and educational circles at the Eastern Ghouta Endowments Branch, noted that the ‘Khairat Hassan’ program has successfully graduated 65 students who have achieved full memorization. Among these graduates, 15 have earned a formal license (ijazah) with an unbroken chain of transmission reaching the Prophet Muhammad. Lathqani emphasized the importance of these programs in fostering a generation committed to religious and ethical values, capable of contributing effectively to their community.

Nour al-Iman Ghazal, the program’s examinations officer, reported that the educational course lasted three months and saw broad participation from students across varying levels of memorization, ranging from those who memorized ten chapters to those who completed the entire Quran. Ghazal highlighted the integration of modern technology in managing the course, explaining that smart cards and electronic codes were utilized to track daily attendance, record memorization progress, and document examination results. This system was implemented to ensure precise organization and accurate assessment of the students’ achievements.

These activities are part of ongoing efforts by the Directorate of Endowments in Rif Dimashq to promote religious education and develop recitation and memorization skills among the youth. A similar event took place in the Dumayr area on September 19, where approximately 180 students were recognized for their excellence in Quranic memorization, in cooperation with local civil and educational stakeholders.
