12 Injured in Syria Road Accidents Over 24 Hours
Multiple regions across Syria experienced a series of traffic accidents and fire incidents over the past 24 hours, prompting extensive emergency responses from Civil Defense teams affiliated with the Ministry of Emergency Situations and Disaster Management.
According to data released by the Civil Defense on Sunday, field teams handled 20 separate traffic accidents across various Syrian provinces. These incidents resulted in 12 injuries. Emergency personnel provided on-site first aid to the injured before transporting them to hospitals for necessary medical treatment. Furthermore, the teams worked to clear debris and secure roadways to ensure the safety of traffic flow.
In light of the frequent accidents, the Civil Defense underscored the importance of drivers adhering to traffic safety regulations. They urged motorists to reduce speed, conduct regular technical inspections of their vehicles—with a specific focus on brakes and windshield wipers—and abstain from hazardous behaviors that distract from driving, most notably the use of mobile phones.
Simultaneously, Civil Defense teams continued their field efforts to manage and contain fires. During the same 24-hour period, they responded to 108 fires affecting agricultural fields, crops, residential homes, shops, vegetation, trees, waste sites, and electrical wiring. The Civil Defense confirmed that all fires were successfully extinguished and the sites cooled without any human casualties, limiting losses to material damage.
Emergency services issued strict warnings to citizens and farmers regarding the necessity of implementing fire prevention measures. Authorities advised against lighting fires in forested areas and agricultural fields and cautioned against discarding cigarette butts or glass containers along roadsides, particularly near crops and woods. Additionally, the public was urged to dispose of dry weeds around homes safely rather than burning them.
This period of intense activity for the Syrian Civil Defense follows a day in which they reported 112 accidents and fires across multiple provinces. Those previous incidents resulted in one death and 17 injuries, highlighting the significant pressure currently facing emergency personnel throughout the country.
