Third Group of Displaced Families Returns to Ras al-Ain

A new wave of displaced residents began their journey home on Monday morning, as the third group of families departed from the cities of Al-Hasakah and Qamishli to return to the city of Ras al-Ain and its surrounding countryside. This latest operation includes approximately 520 families and is part of an ongoing series of initiatives aimed at facilitating the voluntary return of displaced persons to their original areas of residence.

Ahmed Al-Hilali, the Deputy Governor of Al-Hasakah, confirmed that the departure process commenced at 8:00 a.m. He stated that all necessary measures and procedures have been implemented to ensure an organized, safe, and dignified return for the families. Al-Hilali emphasized that government efforts remain focused on accelerating the return process for as many families as possible before the onset of winter.

As part of this transition, authorities are currently working to clear temporary housing centers and school buildings that had been used to accommodate families during their period of displacement. This effort is intended to allow these families to settle back into their original homes while simultaneously enabling the rehabilitation of educational facilities, ensuring they are ready to receive students and resume the educational process.

Regarding the security and service aspects of the transition, the Deputy Governor noted that specialized demining teams, in coordination with the engineering units of the Syrian Army, are continuing intensive efforts to survey and clear villages and areas in Ras al-Ain of war remnants. He stressed that lists of returnees are being prepared sequentially, based on the readiness of the regions and the assurance that they have been fully secured to guarantee the safety of the citizens.

This initiative marks the third phase of the voluntary return program. Two previous batches have already returned home: the first included 413 families, while the second comprised 700 families. With the departure of this third group, the total number of families who have returned to their homes has reached more than 1,630. This is out of an estimated 12,000 displaced families currently residing in Al-Hasakah Governorate, with coordination continuing to facilitate the return of the remaining families in the coming periods.
