Syrian Health Ministry Launches National Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign

The Syrian Ministry of Health launched its national campaign for the early detection of breast cancer on Wednesday, with an opening ceremony held at the Ibn Al-Nafis complex in the capital, Damascus. The initiative, titled “Earlier Exam, Greater Hope,” coincides with the global observance of “Pink October,” a month dedicated to raising awareness about the disease.

The launch event was attended by the Minister of Health, Mossab Al-Ali, alongside representatives from various international and local organizations, as well as several international health sector partners. The high-level attendance underscores the strategic priority the Ministry of Health places on combating chronic illnesses and improving the national healthcare infrastructure.

The primary objective of this national campaign is to intensify community awareness regarding the critical importance of early detection as a cornerstone in the fight against breast cancer. Through this initiative, the Ministry aims to encourage women across all governorates to undergo regular screenings and adhere to necessary medical follow-ups. These efforts are designed to improve the prospects for early treatment, significantly increase recovery rates, and enhance clinical outcomes for patients.

This campaign is a key component of the Ministry’s broader strategy to bolster disease prevention, with events focusing on highlighting diagnosis as the primary line of defense. Throughout the month, awareness activities and screening services will be provided in collaboration with medical personnel and specialized centers in Damascus. These efforts will prioritize the promotion of self-examination, clinical breast exams, and regular mammography.

The campaign is part of a series of health initiatives implemented by the Syrian government to ensure the continuity of preventive and diagnostic medical services for women. Despite current challenges, these efforts reaffirm the importance of the health sector within the Syrian national agenda.
