Syrian-French Medical Conference Concludes in Deir ez-Zor

The Syrian-French Medical Conference concluded its theoretical scientific sessions in Deir ez-Zor this Saturday, marking a significant milestone as the first event of its kind to be held in the province. The conference served as a key platform for medical professionals to exchange expertise and update their knowledge on the latest developments in various fields of medicine.
Over the course of the event, approximately 150 specialized scientific lectures were presented, covering 12 diverse medical disciplines. These sessions addressed critical healthcare topics, aiming to enhance the quality of services provided to patients within the province.
Dr. Nasr Al-Khalaf, Director of Health in Deir ez-Zor, highlighted the significant turnout of physicians from across Syria, as well as the active participation of expatriate Syrian doctors from France, the United Kingdom, and the Gulf states. The featured medical specialties included general surgery, internal medicine, neurosurgery, and pediatrics, among others.
Qahtan Al-Muhammad, head of the Doctors’ Syndicate branch in Deir ez-Zor, praised the intensive efforts undertaken by the syndicate to ensure the success of the conference, from initial planning and coordination to final organization. Beyond theoretical lectures, Al-Muhammad noted that the event also involved the performance of complex and specialized surgical procedures. He expressed hope that such initiatives would strengthen the local capabilities of Syrian medical staff, reducing the need for continuous external support.
Mazen Mulla Othman, head of the conference’s medical campaign, explained that the primary objective of the initiative was to unify the efforts of Syrian doctors based in France to support the healthcare sector inside the country. He noted that Deir ez-Zor was chosen as the host city in recognition of it being the birthplace of several participating physicians and as a means to support the province’s healthcare sector, which has long faced marginalization and challenging conditions.
The conference addressed several core medical issues. Dr. Abdullah Musareh, a cardiologist, delivered presentations on treating heart failure and preventing cardiovascular diseases, emphasizing the importance of lifestyle modifications and the mitigation of risk factors such as smoking and diabetes. Additionally, Obeida Abdul Razzaq, Director of the National Hospital in Deir ez-Zor, reviewed the state of neurosurgery at the hospital, highlighting the significant challenges medical staff face due to a lack of necessary equipment and medical tools.
In conclusion, participants described the conference as a qualitative shift for the medical sector in the province. By providing access to the latest technologies and medical equipment, the event has fostered a collaborative environment for updating medical knowledge and improving the overall standard of care provided to patients.
