Syria Travel Forum 2026 Focuses on Tourism Innovation and Development

The inaugural Syria Travel Forum 2026 concluded its sessions in Damascus this week, marking a significant step toward modernizing the nation’s tourism sector. Held at the Dama Rose Hotel, the forum brought together industry experts and officials to develop a practical vision for reintegrating Syria into the international tourism map while revitalizing local destinations through modern planning and innovation strategies.
Participants engaged in strategic discussions aimed at strengthening the Syrian destination identity, protecting cultural and archaeological heritage, and ensuring their responsible integration into the tourism economy. A major focus was placed on the challenges and opportunities of reconnecting Syria with global markets. Technical sessions featuring aviation industry leaders explored ways to restore air routes and foster the partnerships necessary to attract international visitors.
Sustainability and product diversification were key themes, with sessions highlighting new tourism horizons beyond traditional hubs. Special emphasis was placed on the potential for nature-based tourism and mountain adventure activities. Experts also discussed the vital relationship between restoration efforts, urban planning, and tourism education, all aimed at ensuring the long-term readiness of Syrian tourism assets.
Technological innovation played a prominent role in the forum, which included a competition for startup companies. Five pioneering institutions participated: Telesky, Rehlati AI, Volks7, Rapid Hospitality Academy, and Terhalio. These companies showcased digital solutions and artificial intelligence applications designed to enhance hospitality skills and provide modern tourism services that meet the evolving expectations of travelers.
During the sessions, Khaled Falyoun, Director of Planning and Statistics at the Syrian Ministry of Tourism, presented institutional data and a forward-looking vision for the sector. He emphasized the importance of utilizing statistical analysis to improve institutional performance. The Ministry reported that the forum successfully attracted more than 2,500 visitors, providing a dynamic platform for the exchange of expertise between Syrian professionals and their regional and international counterparts.
This event serves as an initial step toward boosting investment opportunities and strategic partnerships between the public and private sectors. By focusing on untapped tourism potential, the forum aims to build a modern image of Syria as a competitive destination capable of regaining its presence on the global stage, ultimately serving tourism as a cornerstone of the national economy.
